What to expect

The Live Chat service is aimed at students who have a quick question about their visa or immigration status for studying in the UK. For more complicated questions, a visa advice appointment may be offered.

Before you book

Visit the VISAS Team online Live Chat first, as we may be able to answer your question quickly or provide important information about what to bring to your appointment.

How to book

  1. To book an appointment, please contact us through Live Chat; the visa advisor will send you a link to book an appointment or arrange an appointment for you, if appropriate.
  2. After an appointment is booked, you will receive an email to confirm the date and time of the appointment.
  3. Appointments can be either in person or online using Microsoft Teams.

Before you attend your appointment

If you are applying for a Student visa:

  • Prepare the documents needed for your application. To find out what to prepare, visit our webpages about applying for a Student visa inside the UK or outside the UK , or attend Live ChatÌýif you have further questions.
  • Save electronic copies of your documentsÌýwhere you will be able to access them during the appointment.
  • Start your visa application online - when you first create your visa applicationÌýyou should receive a link to your email, so that you can easilyÌýlog back in to your application when needed.
  • Do not sign the declaration or pay for the IHS or visa application fee (you will do this at the appointment).
  • Prepare a payment cardÌýto pay for the IHS and visa application feeÌýonline - if you are applying inside the UKÌýyou (and any dependents applying with you)Ìýmust submit and pay for your application before your current visa expires.

At your appointment

Please attend your appointment promptly.Ìý If you need to cancel or re-book your appointment for another time/date, please let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment, so that the booking can be offered to another student.

During the appointment a Visa Advisor will help you check your answers in your online visa application and also check your documents, before you submit and pay for your application.

Right to ÃÛÌÒTV Checks

To fully enrol for your course you will need to complete a Right to ÃÛÌÒTV check and provide the University with evidence of your nationality and immigration status by uploading your documents. Please follow the steps on the Welcome Website

If you have a Student visa you must also attend an in person Right to ÃÛÌÒTV check before starting your course. To book a Right to ÃÛÌÒTV Check please log into your University IT account and book an appointment .Ìý You should book the earliest available appointment after your arrival in Southampton.Ìý

Change of Circumstances – Friday 11th April 14:00 – 15:00

This presentation is aimed at taught Undergraduate and Master's students and we will be covering the following changes and how they may affect your Student visa:

  • Changes of programme
  • Repeating your studies internally or externally
  • Pause in ÃÛÌÒTV
  • Withdrawal from your course

Graduate Route visa – Monday 14th April 14:00 – 15:00

This presentation is aimed at taught Undergraduate and Master's students we will be covering the following:

  • What does eligibility for the Graduate Route visa mean?
  • How changes to your programme end date and award date may affect your eligibility
  • How repeating your studies may affect your eligibility
