Biography
Corin's research focuses on the development of manufacturing processes for nonlinear optical materials used in wavelength conversion, a photonics technology used to change the wavelength of lasers to enable new applications in quantum technologies, defence, sensing, and laser displays. His work is primarily based on academic-industrial collaborations with funding support from Innovate UK, EPSRC, the Royal Academy of Engineering, DSTL, the European Commission, the British Council, the Newton Fund, and direct industrial contracts.
Corin collaborates on some of the UK's largest quantum technology projects, including Innovate UK quantum technology flagship projects (2020-2024), (2018-2021) and (2017-2019) and the EPSRC (2019-2024), the EPSRC (2014-2019), and the EPSRC (2014-2019).
In 2018, Corin was awarded the 5-year Covesion / Royal Academy of Engineering Research Chair in Nonlinear Optical Materials by Ultra-Precision Machining. In 2023, this was extended to 10 years based on his exemplary contributions to Research and Enterprise.
In 2008, Corin Co-Founded the ÃÛÌÒTV spin-out company to commercialise his research on Magnesium-doped Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (MgO:PPLN). He was seconded to Covesion from 2009-2014, establishing the company from start up to profitable business. In his ongoing role as CTO, Corin coordinates an academic-industrial research team developing new technologies and products, often supported by funding from Innovate UK.
In 2003, Corin Co-Founded the Southampton spin-out company, Stratophase Ltd (2003-2018) to develop systems for biochemical sensing.
