Car parking

The ÃÛÌÒTV has a limited amount of available for staff, students, and visitors at academic sites and halls of residences.Ìý

Parking Permits

The issue of a parking permit is restricted to staff members that live 3 miles or more from their work location and to students that have medical grounds for needing to drive.

Parking restrictions are in force across all University sites with enforcement between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and a parking permit is required to be on display in line with University Parking Regulations.

Visitors can be either booked into the Gower Car Park at Highfield Campus or should use the Pay & Display Car Park.

Permits are not required for motorcycles or scooters but they must not be parked in designated car parking spaces.

The University is also widely connected to a number of public transport routes and can be easily accessed by other forms of active travel .

General Information

The University reviews its car parking policy, regulations, fees and enforcement on an annual basis. Car park entry signage, enforcement warning signage and bay markings is reviewed on a regular basis.ÌýAdditional Blue Badge bays are provided as needed as a matter of urgency.

Signs are on entrance to all access points to University academic campuses and car parks, to advise drivers that they are entering a private car park, that a University parking permit is required to be on display and that enforcement is in operation.

Parking Charge Notices (PCN)

The University's car parks are managed via a combination of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and manual patrols to ensure that University parking regulations are compiled with. A vehicle found parked in non-compliance of University parking regulations will be issued with a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) for £50. A discount of £25 is given on PCNs paid within 14 working days of the PCN being issued. Information about the appeals process is contained on the PCN.Ìý

Electric vehicle charging across our campuses

The University has EV charging facilities across Highfield, Avenue, Winchester and Boldrewood campuses, supplied by Pod Point.

Pod Point has an easy to use app available to iPhone and Android users. Staff can simply download the app, log in using their University email address, and follow the instructions in the user guide to charge their vehicle. If you have external visitors who require temporary access to a charger, please let the parking team know via parking@soton.ac.uk and they will be happy to register their email address to enable them to use the system.

The charging point locations are shown on the . When using an EV charge bay within a permit holder car park, a parking permit is not required during the charging process.

Once charging has finished we ask that the vehicle is removed promptly to give others the opportunity to charge.
