Our funded doctoral training programmes are sponsored by one of the UKRI research councils and partners across Government, Industry, the NHS and Charities. They focus on your development into an independent researcher, under the guidance of an expert supervision team.
The terminology varies between funder and programme, but they are typically called Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT), Doctoral Training Centres (DTC), Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP), Doctoral Focal Award (DFA) or Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA).
Some DTPs/DLAs tend to span many disciplines, others CDTs/DFAs may focus on a specific area of research or interdisciplinary theme. Collectively, with University researchers, each programme offers exciting postgraduate research opportunities at the cutting edge of knowledge and often seeking to address the global challenges of our time. Working with the University Doctoral College and Faculty Teams, these funded doctoral programmes also offer support, a wide range of professional development and skills training aimed at preparing their doctoral graduates to become the next generation of research leaders tackling the critical projects for the future, in whatever career they choose.
A list of the current funded doctoral programmes is given below. Please follow the links for further information on the training opportunities that they offer and application information and deadlines.
