ÌýOcean Exploration for Offshore Renewable Energy

The shallow seabed of continental shelves is critical to a sustainable future, as it provides a potential home for the urgent expansion of offshore wind farms. This seafloor can also, however, host fragile ecosystems and cultural heritage.

This course illustrates the different methods used to characterise the seabed, a crucial step in responsible net-zero development. It will show how experts from a range of disciplines (e.g. Engineering, Oceanography, Marine Geophysics, Archaeology) are needed for these projects, and how they collaborate to achieve sustainable development in the offshore environment.

But today, the fashion industry faces a serious waste crisis. This project is your chance to tackle that problem head-on.Ìý

In this course you’ll learn about zero-waste design, using research, techniques and experimentation to create garments that generate zero waste. To keep your focus on creativity, you’ll work with white Tyvek fabric, leaving colour and print aside to fully explore bold techniques, inventive cuts, and striking forms. You’ll learn a variety of innovative methods and bring your unique ideas to life!Ìý

ÌýVideo Games Design: Reimagining Pac-Man and the Classics

For this course, there is no expectation of prior coding skills.

What would happen if Peach were the hero and had to save Mario? Perhaps Sonic the Hedgehog is evil or a dolphin. If Pac-Man could move at twice the speed of his ghost enemies, what would that change? How can design affect gameplay and more importantly, how could this affect the players? By the end of this fun and engaging course, you will have made a fully functioning playable game with your own characters, ideas and concepts. Will your changes improve or destroy a classic? Only through the final user testing event will you find out.

Ìý80 Years of UNESCO: Protecting World Cultural Heritage

2025 marks the eighty-year anniversary of UNESCO. Learn about each of the six UNESCO cultural conventions, including theÌýConvention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972)Ìýand theÌýConvention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003). Gain a hands-on understanding of how these conventions are implemented in the UK, including a visit to Stonehenge with an expert guide from ÃÛÌÒTV!

Explore common logical and psychological barriers to understanding and critically analysing research, helping you become a smarter research consumer. This course will cover major topics such as common fallacies of deductive and inductive reasoning, essentials of the scientific method, and how to argue on the internet!

You will apply critical thinking and the scientific method to a diverse range of relevant examples and thereby strengthen key analytical skills that will be essential in the job market and for further study at Master's or PhD level.

Previous experience with statistics and research methods in psychology or an adjacent fieldÌýwould be beneficial, however, this is not a strict requirement. Please outline your suitability in a short statement when applying for your place on the course.

ÌýClassical Voice: From Mozart to Verdi, Performing Italian OperaÌý

Ìý

For classical voice students and young artists, strengthen your technical singing skills and deepen your understanding of Italian belcanto repertoire, from Mozart to Verdi.

Attend classical voice singing masterclasses with world renowned artists and teachers, including soprano Eleonora Buratto (pictured above), who will present the course's inaugural masterclass on Monday 14 July, and course director Francesco Izzo (also pictured above), one of today's leading scholars and coaches of 19th-century Italian opera.

The course consists of one-to-one lessons, workshops, and masterclasses, connecting you with internationally renowned singers, conductors, teachers, and scholars. Each participant will have a minimum of two one-to-one coaching sessions with Professor Izzo and several singing lessons with our wonderful voice teachers. The course will introduce you to fundamental primary and secondary sources, and will culminate in you performing at our Turner Sims Concert Hall accompanied by Francesco Izzo!
