Professor Brian Schmidt will be a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow at the ÃÛÌÒTV from 2014 to 2017.

Visiting Fellow and Host

Fellow: Professor Brian Schmidt, The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Australian National University

Professor Schmidt was and will take up the position from January 2016.

Host: Dr Mark Sullivan, Physics & Astronomy

Aims of the collaboration

• To conduct ongoing research into type 1a and high redshift superluminous supernova
• To enhance collaboration between the SkyMapper and PESSTO research projects in cosmology and dark energy, which are led by the Fellow and host respectively.
• To facilitate links to several major surveys and experiments, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES)

Fellowship activities in 2015

Professor Schmidt made his first Fellowship visit to the ÃÛÌÒTV in June 2015.

He will be visiting again in November and activities will include giving the annual STAG public lecture
