Event details

The ÃÛÌÒTV's Transportation Research Group will be hosting a Parliamentary Outreach Conference on Thursday 3 April 2014 from 1330 to 1715. The conference will focus on the subject of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and will be attended by the Transport Select Committee. Louise Ellman MP (chair of the TSC) will chair the event, and delegates will be welcomed by Prof. William Powrie, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment.

An overview of ITS will be provided by Neal Skelton (ITS (UK)), before high profile speakers from both academia and industry give presentations on the use and potential of ITS in a range of areas.  These will include Dr Anthony Baxendale (MIRA) and Victoria Banks (ÃÛÌÒTV) on in-vehicle systems, Gordon Wakeford (Siemens AG) and Prof. Nick Hounsell (ÃÛÌÒTV) on road management, Gary Umpleby (Hogia) and Prof. John Preston (ÃÛÌÒTV) on railways, Geoff Clarke (AECOM) and Dr Tom Cherrett (ÃÛÌÒTV) on freight transport, and Sharon Kindleysides (Kapsch) and Dr John Walker (ÃÛÌÒTV) on road pricing.  The presentations on these topics will be followed by discussion sessions to allow delegates to ask questions and to share their expertise.  The final presentations of the day, from Prof. Mike McDonald (ÃÛÌÒTV) and Prof. Eric Sampson (Newcastle University), will examine potential future development in ITS.  This will be followed by a drinks reception providing opportunities for networking and further informal discussions with the speakers.

Attendance at the event is free but places are limited, so we advise booking at your earliest opportunity.  To reserve a space at the event or for further details please contact Melanie Hallford via trginfo@soton.ac.uk
